I served as the Managing Editor of the refereed Journal of Communication Inquiry (JCI) for the academic year 2017-18. Now in its 44th year, this media and cultural studies journal is published in association with Sage Publications and is affiliated with the Cultural & Critical Studies Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC). In addition to regular JCI issues, I edited a special section on “1968 Movements and Activism” in the journal. I am also editing a theme edition on migration and news media which will be published in October 2018. I was the Book Reviews Editor of JCI in 2016-17, and I have been on its editorial board for the last three years.
Before coming to the US, I worked in India as a researcher at the Asian College of Journalism for a UNICEF project on media coverage of children. I was also involved in designing and supervising a developmental journalism field project that entailed postgraduate students investigating and reporting issues of concern to rural publics in the southern Indian state of Karnataka.
Lastly, from 2007 to 2010, I worked as an analyst at the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited, Bangalore (India branch). My job included developing back-end banking applications and producing web content for the company’s internal website.
