Professional Experience

I served as the Managing Editor of the Journal of Communication Inquiry (JCI) for the academic year 2017-18. Now in its 47th year, this journal is published in association with Sage Publications and is affiliated with the Cultural & Critical Studies Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC). In addition to regular JCI issues, I edited a special section on “1968 Movements and Activism” and a theme edition on migration and the media. In 2016-17, I was JCI‘s Book Reviews Editor.

Before my doctoral studies in the US, I worked in India as a researcher at the Asian College of Journalism for a UNICEF-commissioned project on media coverage of children’s issues. I was also involved in designing and supervising a developmental media field project that entailed postgraduate students investigating and reporting issues of concern to rural publics in the Indian state of Karnataka.

From 2007 to 2010, I worked as an analyst at the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited, Bangalore, India. My job included developing back-end banking applications and producing web content for the company’s portal.
